Why prints on paper and fabrics and not just fabrics?

The printing surface is important to the outcome. The same pattern looks very different on paper than on fabric. 

Printing on paper is made using a printing press and can encompass various techiniques, which cannot be used on fabrics.

Prints on fabrics tend to be more expensive, due to the cost of fine linen, cotton and silk.
